Our Winterplace Weekend

For Christmas I surprised Josh with a trip to Winterplace, West Virginia for a weekend of skiing and some much needed "us" time! After the last 5 or so months of being mostly apart, we desperately needed this weekend away to reconnect, laugh, and just have fun together! We left Major in the caring hands of Aunt Tatie on Friday and with his Pappy and Nona for the rest of the weekend, so we were free to have a good weekend with no worries!

We left on Friday and had a great 6 hour drive, just talking, and laughing and being silly together. As we drove through Knoxville, we talked about college and our first "home" there as a married couple. It was so much fun just being together. As we got closer to West Virginia, the snow really started coming down. I mostly was in awe of all the snow. I think it is the most that I had ever seen.  It was beautiful!

Once we made it to our cabin, we were so excited to just be there. We ordered a pizza, watched a movie and turned in early because of our busy day ahead.  (This picture was actually taken the day we left. It was too dark for a picture when we got there. They had about 20 or so inches at the cabin.)

On Saturday morning, we were up bright and early and on the slopes by 8. It seemed like we were the only ones there for several hours. We had a blast. The snow was beautiful. Winterplace had received nearly 2 weeks of fresh snow by the time we got there, so the ski conditions were amazing. It was a whopping 11 degrees all day, but didn't feel that cold because there was no wind. It snowed most of the day on Saturday, so we couldn't help but to feel so blessed and lucky to experience just an amazing weekend. Many of the workers at Winterplace said they hadn't seen snow so perfect in 10 or 12 years there, so it is fair to say that we chose the perfect weekend! Here's a couple of pics from our first run:

We skied until about 5 pm that afternoon, then decided to call it a day. We headed back toward our little cabin, ate a good dinner, and went to bed by 8! Haha! It was such a wonderful weekend! We missed Major so much and were very anxious to come home to see him, but we knew that he was in great hands. It was so nice to relax and not worry about a thing! I think this may be a yearly tradition!
